An indigenously developed, AI-enhanced Negative Pressure Wave (NPW) leak detection system for long-distance oil & gas pipelines - built to detect leaks within seconds and locate them within metres.
iLDS enhances the proven Negative Pressure Wave method with Industrial IoT sensing and a trained AI classifier. When a leak occurs, it produces a sudden but small pressure drop that travels along the pipeline at near-acoustic speed. By capturing this transient at edge devices installed along the route and timing its arrival precisely, the system detects the leak and estimates its location - then an AI model filters the signal for small leaks and noise to reduce false alarms.
High-frequency pressure transmitters (100 Hz) feed edge devices installed at stations along the pipeline route.
Edge devices pre-process and send the data securely to a cloud or on-premise server over a wired or cellular link.
AI model, pre-trained on field data, classifies signals and computes leak location by time-of-flight.
Leak status, size and location are pushed to a live dashboard with SMS/email alarms - typically within minutes of onset.
Developed under the IndianOil Startup Scheme with National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) as Project Management Consultant, iLDS has progressed from lab validation through staged field trials on operating product and crude oil pipelines.
